Amber Hughes in Year 7 is a phenomenal athlete and definitely one to watch for in the future. Amber competed at the Etihad Stadium to try and achieve the Junior Indoor 60m Hurdle national record. There is no hurdle race for her age group, U13, so she was entered in the U15 age category. Even though she hit a hurdle, Amber got the national record in a time of 8.51 seconds beating the current national record by 0.04 of a second.
As well as this unbelievable achievement Amber also competed in the Northern Championships in Sheffield on the 4th February. She was entered in the U13s for the shot put, high jump and the 200m. She won gold in all 3 of the events with some outstanding distances and times meaning she is now Northern Champion. She is currently continuing her hard training and is going for the National Pentathlon record of 3000 points when she competes next on the 18th March in Gateshead, her current PB points total is 2976. We wish her the best of luck.
